LiFe Batteries for Industrial and OEM Applications
Lithium Iron Phosphate, LiFePO4 or LFP for short, is one of many Lithium derivatives offered by VPW. Attributed as being among the safest of the Lithium chemistries, LiFe batteries provide long service life when properly cared for and maintained and are an excellent alternative to SLA (Sealed Lead Acid) batteries. With superior thermal and chemical stability LiFe batteries are generally an excellent low cost per KWh solution where weight is not a critical design parameter. Often used in robots, mobile surveillance, lighting towers and lighted signs, VPW is your premier partner for a wide variety of application optimized LiFe batteries, whether it be for low temperatures, high temperatures and/or high discharge rate.
Sealed Lead Acid (SLA) Replacement:
LiFePO4 is an excellent alternative to Sealed Lead Acid batteries, often called AGM or SLA. While at first glance LiFe batteries can appear more expensive than their Lead Acid counterpart, the longer life, lighter weight, flat voltage curve and ability to be more deeply discharged without damage makes them an ideal replacement for Lead based batteries.
Battery Protection & Management Circuits:
To help increase the safety of Lithium batteries and also extend service life a protection circuit is required to regulate voltage and current within safe limits for the specific lithium chemistry used. Protection circuits also aid to provide the battery conformity to the UN38.3 transportation requirements for lithium batteries. VPW has extensive experience with both stand alone and integrated protection circuits including basic PCM (protection circuit modules) as well as BMS (battery management systems).

BMS – Battery Management Systems
The BMS typically handles the same protections found with PCMs and incorporates a microprocessor, which allows for additional monitoring, control and reporting of a wide variety of parameters based on specific customer requirements. Through integrated software users can gain real time access to an abundance of data through a variety of protocols include the common I2C and CAN bus as well as many others.
